store cupboard essentials

Okay, firstly I know marmite isn't everyones thing but I use this to get a meaty taste to gravy, casseroles if i'm making a veggie version and for sauces too. It is a handy thing to have so it's in my cupboard.

Here's a list of the items I use on such a regular basis they are staples in my cupboard, essential to my everyday cooking.

salt
pepper
olive oil/sunflower oil
stock cubes
cornflour
basil - dried
oregano - dried
vinegar - I use more white wine vinegar than malt
sweet chilli sacue
4 types of pasta (penne, tagliatelle, macaroni, spagetti)
egg noodles
easy cook rice
tea bags/coffee
sugar
tins of tuna
tins of tomatoes
tins of beans
jar of pataks balti curry paste (any of their sauces are great)
jar of ragu style sauce (for emergencies)
2 boxes of cereal (some mornings I need a choice)

And in the bread bin - I try and keep a fresh loaf

Fruit bowl - I usually have bananas - I keep most fruit in the fridge to make it last longer but bananas give off the chemical ethylene which will shorten the life of your other fruit. That is very handy if you have unripened fruit simply stick your bananas in a bag with the unripened fruit and check next day.

Never throw out your old spotted bananas they make great smoothies and mush up nicely on a sandwich as well as being great in cakes.
