Advice for shopping on a budget

Very lovely but corner shops are far more expensive than Superstores

A few well learned pieces of advice

  • Never go shopping when you are hungry
  • Always make a list of what you intend to buy (impulse buying will eventually break the bank)
  • Plan your meals for the week, don't shop day to day (too expensive)
  • Go with a budget and stick closely to it (very hard, chocolate was my killer)
  • Take a calculator and tally up as you go
  • If you have a freezer buy your veggies frozen (they'll go much further)
  • Look out for special offers but only buy them if you need them (don't bulk buy fresh items they go to waste)
  • Superstores are cheaper than corner shops (get a store card for collecting points - very handy)
  • Accept the plastic bags (not enviro friendly but you can use them as bin liners - invaluable)
Mums are invaluable for advice on shopping. When I was done to my last £50 and almost a term still left to do I swear the advice I got from Mum made that £50 stretch further than I thought possible (an evening/weekend job was also a necessity to get me to the end of term too lets not be overly generous with the truth)
