Really does make your money go further
- plan a regular shopping day or better still 2 shopping days (you won't always eat what you plan and will need to refresh your cupboards or fridge.
- fresher foods at the beginning of the food week
- salad is good for about 2/3 days so plan meals with salad together and use close to buying day
- think of a number of meals using the same ingredients i.e. cooking a Sunday chicken, have chicken and pasta on the Monday and chicken sandwiches for lunch
- when buying pasta, rice, pulses, lentils etc. buy large bags and it'll be a few weeks before they go back on your shopping list making next weeks shop cheaper
- plan a meal that will mop up left overs i.e. soup - any unused fresh veg can go into a pan with a stock cube
- check how much freezer space you have and plan to fill it with frozen veg, garlic bread, frozen french fries, bread and milk (the last two always taste better fresh but when you run out you'll be glad you froze some)
- if you're cooking only for you make a meal for 2 and freeze the 2nd (i'll do a post of easy freezing meals)
- try to have a selection of food from the food wheel to stay healthy (too much of the same ain't no good - especially donner kebabs)
- think of convenience foods as 'we think you're so lazy' foods, you're not you can slice your own carrots and chop your own apples and grate your own cheese
- superstore foods own brands are often great cheap buys and often as tasty as big brands
